IDTs Net2Phone and JABRA Corporation Ally To Distribute
Complete Internet Telephony Solution
Partnership bundles IDTs PC-to-phone Internet software
with JABRAs hands-free EarSet for low-cost international calling
Hackensack, NJ. and SAN DIEGO, CA - April 28, 1998 - IDT Corporation
(NASDAQ: IDTC) and JABRA® Corporation announced today that IDTs
Net2Phone software will be bundled with the JABRA EarSet for PCs,
which shall provide a complete solution for Internet telephony users.
As a result, individuals and businesses alike can simultaneously
enjoy the benefits of hands-free communications and the reduced
rates of Internet calling. Net2Phone software initiates calls on
a computer and then routes them over the Internet to any phone in
the world. Since the signal is carried over the Internet until it
reaches IDTs U.S.-based phone switches, rates are not dependent
upon the country of origin. As a result, users can pay as little
as 10 cents a minute for calls to the United States from anywhere
in the world. Having already routed more than 20 million minutes
of Internet telephony calls averaging more than seven minutes per
international call, IDTs myriad of Internet telephony services
have become a proven communications option for individuals and businesses
worldwide. "For almost two years, Net2Phone has been enabling
computer users worldwide with the ability to call regular telephones
at extremely reduced costs, and this agreement with JABRA will help
these computer users communicate more effectively," said Net2Phone
Inc.s CEO Clifford Sobel. "JABRAs EarSets have
become widely known throughout the industry as a user-friendly mechanism
for employing multimedia applications on computers, and we look
forward to integrating our services together and working towards
improving Internet telephony both on a product and service level."
Protected by five patents, the JABRA EarSet for PC combines the
industrys most sensitive unidirectional microphone and high-quality
speaker in a single, miniature unit that fits comfortably in the
outer ear. The EarGels, which are soft, colorful molds that provide
a near-custom fit for the ear piece in the outer ear, allow for
hours of comfortable use. The EarGel also channels sound directly
into the users ear canal for private conversations and unmatched
reception. And unlike traditional headsets, the fixed distance between
the EarSets microphone and the speakers mouth ensures
consistent transmission quality no matter how one moves. "Working
together, IDT and JABRA are perfectly positioned to address the
exploding Internet telephony market," said Vicki Marion, President
and CEO for JABRA Corporation. "Net2Phone, used with the JABRA
EarSet, will be the ideal choice for computer users that want to
capitalize on the dramatic savings that Internet calling affords,
while enjoying the benefits of crisp, clear, hands-free communication."
The demand for a comfortable, stylish and private Internet telephony
hands-free accessory is growing: IDC predicts 16 million Internet
telephony users by 1999. To meet this demand, the Net2Phone software
will be bundled in JABRAs retail product package, and will
be distributed throughout North America, Latin America, Europe and
Asia. The Internet telephony software is free for those purchasing
the JABRA EarSet for PC. The bundled package will be available by
the early summer of 1998.
