Net2Phone to Offer Free E-mail Service to all WTC Corporations
Net2Phone's Mail.com Service will Provide Corporate E-mail
Services to all Businesses affected by the World Trade Center Tragedy
Newark, NJ -- September 25, 2001 -- Net2Phone, Inc (NASDAQ: NTOP),
a leading provider of voice and enhanced services to IP networks,
is currently making its Mail.com E-mail Service available, by hosting
the corporate domain, for all companies that have been affected
by the World Trade Center tragedy. This service, which will be provided
for free, will allow any corporation and its workforce the ability
to send and receive e-mail from their regular corporate e-mail addresses,
through any web browser. The service will allow corporations to
continue business as efficiently as possible, as they work from
temporary offices and transition both their data and phone services
to new and more permanent locations.
Net2Phone has been working in conjunction with the New York Software
Association to make this service available to all of the companies
that need it. Any company that is looking to sign up for the service
or for more information on the service can find it at newyork.mail.com
or by calling Adam Weissleder at (646) 223-1256.
"This tragedy has affected individuals, families, and companies
in the tri-state area, all over this country, and around the world.,"
said Howard Balter, Chief Executive Officer of Net2Phone. "With
on-going communications outages, we know how hard it has been for
people to get back to work and return to a sense of normalcy. We
hope that by providing this e-mail service we can make that process
just a little easier."
Most communications networks have been affected by the events of
the last two weeks, including traditional landline telephony, cellular
phone service and data services. Net2Phone's VoIP network, along
with e-mail communication were utilized as important communications
tools in the wake of this horrific incident. Much of the landline
and cellular service in the surrounding New York City area was knocked
out and the Internet became the main connection to reach family,
friends and co-workers. Both domestic and international usage on
the Net2Phone VoIP network peaked in the hours directly after the
initial attack. International calls into the New York City area
over Net2Phone were roughly three to four times higher than the
normal volume for most of the following week, as traditional phone
service was still intermittent.
"It is very satisfying that our network was available to
help people trying to reach their friends and loved ones during
this difficult time," said Gary Lundner, Vice President
of Network Operations. "Over the last several days, from
a network standpoint, we can clearly see the incredible scope and
power of the Internet and VoIP technology."
