IDT's Net2Phone Unveils Corporate Solution to Internet Telephony
at COMDEX
November 18 1997
HACKENSACK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 18, 1997-- IDT's (NASDAQ:
IDTC - news) Net2Phone today unveiled a corporate solution for Internet
telephony with the introduction of Net2Phone 8.35 at Fall COMDEX
97. The solution enables corporations to fully integrate Net2Phone,
IDT's proprietary Internet telephony service, into a PBX or standard
telephone. Business and personal users will now be able to reap
the benefits of low-cost Internet telephony without requiring a
microphone or speakers. Those attending COMDEX will be able to test
the newly integrated service at Net2Phone's booth (H844 at the Las
Vegas Hilton).
Utilizing PhoneJACK - Quicknet Technologies' telephony expansion
card with full PSTN emulation - a PC running Net2Phone can be plugged
into either a PBX or a traditional single-line telephone resulting
in transparent Internet phone calling. With Net2Phone 8.35, calls
are initiated from a telephone and have full touch-tone decoding.
Added features include conference calling, remote call forwarding,
and transferring abilities.
``More than 290,000 customers worldwide have reaped the benefits
of Net2Phone, and with this new dialing integration, we expect to
attract a larger corporate clientele as well as increase our current
residential customer base,'' said Net2Phone CEO Clifford Sobel.
``The ability to directly place a call from your telephone over
the Internet using Net2Phone means that businesses can now take
advantage of the Internet to make calls to save money on long distance
and International calls.''
``By providing direct dialing and telephone integration between
the Internet PhoneJACK and IDT's market leading Net2Phone, the customer's
quality and calling experience are greatly improved,'' said Mr.
Stacey Reineccius, President of Quicknet Technologies, Inc. ``Working
together, IDT and Quicknet have now been able to bring a whole new
level of ease of use, quality and affordability to the Internet
telephone user.''
Because the computer is plugged into the PBX or telephone, the
Net2Phone call appears as if it is originating on a telephone line
as opposed to a computer. The Internet PhoneJACK can be connected
directly to a telephone from a PC, resulting in a regular telephone
conversation via Net2Phone. With powerful quality improving features
including echo cancellation and on-board compression the Internet
PhoneJACK is specifically designed to provide the best possible
quality for Internet based voice calls.
In response to popular demand, IDT's Net2Phone also announced today
plans to introduce significantly reduced Net2Phone rates for corporate
users. New rate tables will be introduced for high-frequency callers
by the end of 1997.
Those not attending COMDEX can download the FREE updates to version
8.35 of Net2Phone and version 1.3 of Internet PhoneJACK software
in order to take advantage of the new integrated capabilities. (Both
are available at www.net2phone.com and www.quicknet.net/download.htm)
This release is not to be confused with Net2Phone DIRECT, IDT's
Internet long distance service where users do not need computers
or an Internet connection to initiate a call.
