| Build or Buy?
At Net2Phone, we understand the challenges and complexities
faced by cable operators who are considering deploying telephony
services. Operators currently have two distinct technologies
they can employ to offer cable telephony services: Constant
Bit Rate (CBR) technology and VoIP technology. CBR utilizes
the circuit-switched network currently used in traditional
phone service. VoIP technology permits cable operators to
implement and offer telephony services comparable to those
offered by traditional telephone service providers, at a cost
below those associated with CBR. Both options leverage the
investment made to upgrade to two-way cable plant as voice
service is added to the existing data services stream.
Build
Building an in-house telephony solution is a complex undertaking. It requires integration of additional multi-vendor components with existing systems, requiring substantial capital expense and technical expertise. Architecture, design, vendor selection, implementation, PSTN integration, back office integration, operations and business process engineering, training, and maintaining a VoIP solution are not simple tasks. To support an internal solution, operators must often engage in hiring, retraining and process reengineering to support telephony network operations, business operations and customer service.
Buy
At Net2Phone, we have experience with the ongoing operational differences between a video plant and a telephony plant, the resources required pre- and post-implementation and the complexity of integrating the VoIP solution within the cable infrastructure. We provide the management know-how to operate the intricacies of a two-way plant enabled for voice telephony with CLASS 5 services, including the critical interfaces to the PSTN for call origination and termination in addition to transaction-based billing.
Both CableLine and VoiceLine VoIP services provide comprehensive
residential telephony solutions, which have several key benefits
relative to traditional CBR circuit-switched networks, including:
- Comparable reliability, enhanced services and functionality
- Simpler and faster deployment
- Lower deployment costs
- Lower maintenance costs
- The ability to offer competitively priced calling plans
Net2Phone’s expertise in VoIP services reduces operator risks
and minimizes the operational disruption associated with developing
and maintaining an in-house telephony service. With a solution
from Net2Phone, project management, technical, operational
and marketing guidance are provided to assist operators to
roll out telephony service seamlessly and successfully.
