Transfer Your Phone Number
If you are a U.S. resident and will be using VoiceLine in
the U.S., you have the option of transferring your current
phone number to VoiceLine. The number you transfer must be
active with your current phone service provider.
The following types of numbers cannot be transferred to VoiceLine:
- Disconnected numbers
- Wireless or cellular numbers
- Beeper numbers
- Toll-free numbers (800 or 866)
- Pay-per-call numbers (900 or 976)
If you are a DSL subscriber, you will need to leave your
phone number with your current phone service provider. (If
you were to transfer the phone number associated with your
DSL service, you would also lose your broadband Internet connection,
which is required to use VoiceLine.)
How
the phone number transfer process works
If you choose to transfer your phone number, you must authorize
Net2Phone to complete the transfer process on your behalf
when you sign up for VoiceLine. You do not need to notify
your current phone service provider.
Once you have authorized the transfer, the process takes
approximately 2-4 weeks to complete. We will notify you by
e-mail with the date that your phone number transfer will
take place. You will also receive an e-mail once your number
has been transferred successfully to VoiceLine.
Please note that until your phone number is transferred,
you must maintain alternative means to dial emergency (911)
services if needed.
If
you choose to transfer your phone number, please follow these
guidelines:
- If you have placed a "freeze" order on your
phone number to prevent it from being switched to another
provider, you must contact your service provider to request
that the "freeze" be removed.
- Once you place your VoiceLine order, please do not make
any changes to your current phone service, such as purchasing
calling features (Caller ID, for example), as this may delay
the transfer. If you already have a pending change or disconnect
order, you must cancel that order before transferring your
number to VoiceLine.
Find
out if your phone number can be transferred
When you sign
up for VoiceLine, select the "Transfer my current
phone number to VoiceLine" option. Enter the phone number
you wish to transfer and the address where you currently receive
phone service. This information is used to determine whether
your number can be transferred.
Please note: Not every phone number can be transferred to
VoiceLine. If your number is not eligible, you will have the
option to choose a new, separate phone number.
